About Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini

Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini, born Maria Francesca Cabrini on July 15, 1850, was a remarkable Italian-American religious sister who dedicated her life to serving those in need. She founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a religious institute that continues to provide education, health care, and social services to the underprivileged in 15 nations. Throughout her lifetime, she established 67 schools, orphanages, and various charitable institutions across Italy and the United States, significantly impacting countless lives.

In 1887, Mother Cabrini migrated to the United States, where she faced challenges, including anti-Italian sentiment and opposition from certain members of the Catholic Church. Her compassionate work did not go unnoticed, as Catholic leaders began to seek her assistance in creating missions throughout Latin America and Europe, recognizing her as a key figure in the Church.

Naturalized as an American citizen in 1909, Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini continued her mission until her passing on December 22, 1917. Following her death, her order advocated for her sainthood, leading to her beatification in 1938 and canonization in 1946. In 1950, the Vatican named her the patron saint of immigrants, honoring her lifelong dedication to serving those in need and her unwavering faith in God.
