About Saint Blaise
Saint Blaise of Sebaste, a physician and bishop of Sebastea in historical Lesser Armenia, is revered as a Christian martyr. Born around 316 AD, he dedicated his life to the service of God and the healing of the sick. His compassionate nature and commitment to his faith made him a beloved figure among his community. As a bishop, he provided spiritual guidance and care, embodying the virtues of charity and mercy.
During a time of persecution against Christians, Saint Blaise was arrested for his unwavering beliefs. According to the Acta Sanctorum, he endured severe torture, including being beaten and subjected to the cruel torture of iron combs, before ultimately being beheaded for his faith. His martyrdom only solidified his position as a protector of the faithful, and he is remembered for his courage in the face of adversity.
Saint Blaise is celebrated as the patron saint of wool combers and those suffering from diseases of the throat and other ENT illnesses. His feast day is observed on February 3 in the Latin Church and on February 11 in the Eastern Churches. His intercession is sought by many, and he is often invoked for healing, making him a powerful figure in both devotional practices and the history of the Church.
