In Japan, Lorenzo Ruiz faced severe persecution for his faith. He was arrested and tortured for refusing to renounce Christianity. His courage and steadfastness in the face of death served as a testament to his deep love for God and his desire to bear witness to his faith. He uttered powerful words of faith during his trials, declaring, “I am a Christian, and I am ready to die for my faith.”
Lorenzo Ruiz was martyred in 1637, and his legacy continues to inspire countless believers around the world. He was canonized by Pope John Paul II on October 18, 1987, making him the first Filipino saint. His feast day is celebrated on September 28, a day dedicated to honoring his life and virtues, including courage, faith, and perseverance.
